I am a weekend woodworker, so I do have some experience already with corded plunge routers. This is the first cordless router I have owned. I will admit that I had the opportunity to get a cordless DeWalt trim router in the past, but I opted for the corded version instead. I've always had the impression that a cordless router would lack sufficient power. But enough about my insecurities, on to the specifics. The biggest issue I've always run into when using a full-size corded router is the cord getting in the way. An easy solution to this is to power it from an extension cord hanging, from the ceiling. This way you can freely move around with the router, without worrying about taking out the cord, or tripping on it... This router completely takes away this concern. It is a full size, full power router, which is actually cordless! I was kind of scared that the performance would be limited by a lack of power, but this is totally not the case. This router runs just as well, and chews through wood just as well, as my Bosch. It is equipped with a 36 volt battery, which appears to keep this thing going for a good amount of time. I have been using it for several weekends, and have yet to charge it. I was fully expecting that the battery operation would be a handicap for this router, but it just simply hasn't been the case.As for the features on the router that I appreciated. It comes with a nice bright LED light. This is great when you're working during the evening, with low light. It also comes with the collets to support ¼ inch or ½ inch bits. I generally only use my full size router for ½ inch bits, but it is nice to have that option, if I don't want to dig out my trim router for smaller work.I was also thoroughly impressed with how quickly this router stops. You don't have to sit there and wait for the bit to come to a complete stop, like some lesser models. To me this is also a great safety feature. It also comes with the necessary attachments for dust collection. I do wish that the dust collection accessory didn't need to be screwed on. I generally only use dust collection with my routers when I am doing work in my garage, and just let the sawdust fly when I am outside. I do wish that the manufacturer had made the dust collection attachment snap on, rather than screw on, but this isn't the end of the world. As far as how well the tool performed with my dust extractor attached, I would say it is well designed. My dust extractor was able to clean up nearly all of the sawdust making its way out of the tool.Overall, I am thoroughly impressed with this router. I can't tell you how refreshing it is to not have to worry about a cord when using a router. This router runs with the same power capacity as my corded Bosch. There really isn't any aspect that is lacking on this router. It's a very welcome addition to my shop. I would certainly recommend it.Short Review: Really like this router, quality made with plenty of power. I think the price is high, but you are getting a good CORDLESS router. This brand use to be Hitachi, was or something like that, they are or were kind of related. That said, Hitachi did make quality tools. My son in law works construction and says many guys using Hitachi and they really like them.So you are getting a quality made tool. It just looks well made with a fantastic finish. I was surprised at how much comes with this kit. Pretty much everything you would need for a router including edge guide and template adapter with assorted template bushing. You even get a heavy duty nylon type bag to keep it all nice and safe. You also get both 1/4" and 1/2" bit collects.Performance - Chucked up a 1/4" straight bit and plunged it into a 2X4 as a test. Dug right in and cut without no issue, did not bog down or anything. Feels like a 2 HP router to me. Plenty of power for everything except big bits like raised panel, you would probably burn it up trying to use bits like that. The plunge is very smooth, works very well. I also like the trigger power switch on the side handles. Makes it very comfortable to use. Wish other router brands used this kind of trigger. Plus there is a trigger lock so you don't have to keep the trigger pulled.I was wondering if the router was going to be top heavy, with a big battery on the top. Actually it is not that bad, just a little tippy, but nothing you can't control. Course most times you'll have the router on the material, so won't be an issue.Dust Collection - Something important to most people these days. Was again surprised that the dust collection worked as well as it did. I'd say it picked up 90% of the dust/chips. Course that is for doing work into/over a piece. You will NOT get good dust collection for like flush trimming, anything off the material. Though I am sure people will put it down for poor collection in that use. Not an issue with the router, same on any router. While it was nice that included a dust collection adapter (often you have to buy that separately with other brands), the adapter was a very poor design. To attach it, was a real bad design. You have to attach it with two small screws in the center of the base plate. So it's difficult to get the screws in and started because they are directly under the motor. To tighten the screws you have to use a right angle screwdriver, or a very short screwdriver. One other thing, the template guide piece also attaches using those same screw holes. So you can NOT have the dust collection and the template guide at the same time. They sure did not think that one out. They claim it is the first cordless plunge router, but not really true. I've had my Makita cordless compact that has a plunge base for some time. I also have a Dewalt cordless compact router that uses a plunge base, think that has been around for a while as well. Maybe they are talking about a bigger router dedicated to plunging? As for the price, only my opinion, but it's a little high. Yes it's a great router with plenty of power and yes it's nice that it is cordless, plus you get everything, but I don't see how it's worth the price they have here ($399 as of this review). That is only my opinion. But you are getting what you pay for. Don't think you would regret it. There are other brands that cost even more (think green).Overall, it is a fantastic router, comes with everything and plenty of power. So if you are okay with the price, I would recommend.
